In 1952, hotelier Anton Englert built the house right on the market square and opened a hotel with a restaurant and café. Guests have been welcomed here ever since – more than 70 years of Würzburg hospitality.
Our café bears the name of Prince-Bishop Johann Philipp Franz von Schönborn – one of the defining figures in Würzburg's history. A name that stands for tradition, continuity and the city's baroque heritage.
We are right on the Upper Market, with a panoramic view of the late-Gothic Marienkapelle and the richly decorated Falkenhaus. From our large windows and the terrace you experience the heart of Würzburg up close.
Today we welcome you on two floors and our large terrace: from the first cappuccino at 8:30 am to homemade cake and fresh cuisine, all the way to a cocktail late in the evening. We have room for more than 270 guests.

We are happy to reserve a table for you until 10:00 am and again from 5:00 pm. In between, reservations are unfortunately not possible – but thanks to our many tables, you usually only wait briefly even when we are busy.

Yes. Our menu has a variety of vegetarian and vegan dishes, and the weekly menu also offers changing options. On request, we serve our coffee specialities with barista oat milk.
Our kitchen is open daily until at least 9:30 pm – often longer in the summer months or when it is busy.
We are right on the market square, an easy walk from anywhere in the city centre. For parking, we recommend the Marktgarage car park; the Dom and Rathaus tram stops are just a few metres away.
